How to mix CBD oils - CBD calculator

How to mix CBD oils? This is a question we hear a lot from our customers. In this blog we will explain how to mix your own CBD oils and show our CBD e liquid calculator in action.

So why mix your own CBD oils? Well it can of course work out cheaper but you can also have control over how strong your CBD is and plus as we know from mixing our own nicotine e liquids it's fun!

Before we get into how to mix CBD, if you aren't sure what CBD is then click here for our informative blog. So let's get into this, we will start first by explaining the different products you can purchase and what they are/do

CBD isolates

CBD isolates are the main component of mixing your own CBD oils. They are little crystals that look very similar to powder. These isolates are what you will be using to create a CBD oil.

There are flavourless CBD isolates, these are mostly used if you want to create a CBD oil that is flavoured for example a Blueberry CBD oil. These isolates do not carry any taste and are best used for people who don't enjoy the taste of hemp.

There are terpene infused CBD isolates, these isolates contain the flavour profile from the Cannabis plant. This is why they will have different names such as Lemon Haze, Silver Haze, Blue Cheese etc. These isolates do carry a hemp taste but they also contain different cannabidiols, as you are aware there are 60 compounds in a Cannabis Plant and these are what Scientists call cannabinoids, what we refer to as CBD is just one. In these terpene infused isolates they contain CBD but other cannabidiols too. This is what is referred to as full spectrum CBD. Please note this is in reference to the terpene infused CBD isolates we stock, please check with your supplier if the terpene infused isolates do in fact contain the other cannabidiols. So why do people want full spectrum oils? Simply because people report the more of the cannabis plant you have, the better the oils work.

Carrier Base

Your carrier base is what you will dilute the CBD isolates into. You can select from two different carrier bases, more information on the differences between the two below.

Hemp Seed Oil

Our hemp seed oil is pure, natural, vegan and unrefined. Hemp seed carrier oil is extracted through the cold press process using the seeds. It is usually dark green in colour and has a slight nutty aroma. It does not contain CBD or the psychoactive THC that are present in the dried leaves of cannabis sativa. This carrier base does taste of hemp and is best used with the terpene infused CBD isolates or if you are going to add terpene drops.

MCT Coconut Oil

MCT oil is usually clear in colour but sometimes has a slight dark yellow tinge. No taste or aroma. This carrier base is best if you do not like the taste of hemp and are going to have a flavourless CBD oil or add a flavour concentrate to your oil.

Terpenes

Terpenes are liquid drops specially blended to mimic the flavour profile of Cannabis strains. These do not contain CBD and are added to CBD oils made from the flavourless isolates to give the oil a hemp taste.

How to mix CBD oils

Now for the fun part, below will be some instructions on how to mix a 10ml CBD oil with different instructions for using flavourless isolates, terpene infused isolates and how to mix if you are wanting to add terpene drops or a flavour concentrate.

Here is a table of how much isolates you need in order to make different CBD MG strengths with different bottle sizes. If your chosen CBD MG strength or bottle size isn't there, why not try our CBD calculator here where you can select from different MG strengths, bottle sizes and the calculator will work out exactly how much Isolate you will need. The calculator will also show you how much Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin you will need but you can disregard this part as you are making an oil not an e liquid. Simply add the Propylene Glycol and Vegetable amount together and swap it for your carrier base (Hemp/MCT). See a preview video of how our CBD calculator works at the bottom of this page.

TERPENE INFUSED ISOLATES CBD OIL METHOD:

  1. Please put on some gloves and set a clear area on a table for you to work from
  2. Grab a big sized beaker or container for example a 100ml sized beaker and fill it half way with hot water from the kettle
  3. Grab a smaller beaker or a container for example a 50ml beaker and place it inside the 100ml beaker. This is used to warm the Hemp or MCT oil
  4. Syringe 10ml of Hemp or MCT oil into the empty 50ml plastic beaker, allow the oil to warm up for around 1 minute
  5. Please set your scales to measure in grams
  6. Using a tea spoon measure out your chosen grams of terpene infused CBD isolate (refer above for a guide). For example if chosen to make a 500MG CBD oil, measure out 0.500 Grams of CBD isolate
  7. Tip the isolates into the beaker with the oil and stir gently until the CBD isolates are fully disolved. Leave for approx 2 minutes
  8. Pour the finished liquid into your empty 10ml bottle
  9. Shake your CBD oil before every use. To use drip 2-3 drops under the tongue and let the oil absorb for as long as possible before swallowing, spread use throughout the day with no more than 15 drops per day
